Purpose:
The perioperative nurse is an important member of the trauma team; therefore, it is vital for this person to have an understanding of the trauma system. The purpose of this program is to provide the participant with a working definition of trauma, as well as knowledge regarding why trauma systems are important, the various levels of trauma centers, and the issues impacting trauma centers in today's healthcare environment.

Objectives
- Define trauma and explain the significance of it being a distinct disease entity
