Aseptic Technique: Understanding the Details

Purpose:

This course is designed for the operating room practioner, both registered nurse and surgical technician, to teach them the principles of aseptic technique and understand why it is important to follow each principle. The course material has been designed to explain why sterility is important to the care of every surgical patient, review scientific advances in aseptic technique, and discuss each principle of aseptic technique and how it should be implemented in daily practice. Without this thorough understanding of these principles patients may receive nursing care that will place them at a risk for surgical site infections. Completion of this course will provide the nurse and/or technician with the necessary knowledge they require.
