Vascular Surgery Series Part 2: PVD Surgical Treatments

The overall purpose of this series is to educate nurses about Vascular Surgery. This is course 2 in a 3 course series. This second course covers femoral artery disease, iliac artery disease, and aortic artery disease as well as the surgical treatments for these conditions. After studying this course, the learner will have a more in-depth understanding of Peripheral Vascular Disease that was first addressed in course one as well as a description of the FemoroPopliteal, Femorotibial, Femorofemoral, Axillofemoral, and Aortobifemoral Bypass procedures and how to prepare his/her patient for them.

• Identify the anatomy associated with Femoral-Popliteal/Femoral-Tibial bypass surgery
• Illustrate the steps involved for the Femoral-Popliteal/Femoral-Tibial bypass procedure, the circulating nurse's role in preparation, and post-operative risks to the patient during the recovery phase
• Identify the anatomy associated with an Aortic Occlusive Disease and Aorto-bifemoral bypass surgery
• Illustrate the steps involved in the Aorto-bifemoral bypass procedure, the circulating nurse's role in preparation, and post-operative risks to the patient during the recovery phase
• Identify the anatomy associated with a Femoral-femoral and Axilo-femoral bypass surgery
• Illustrate the steps involved in the Femoral-femoral and Axilo-femoral bypass procedures, the circulating nurse's role in preparation, and post-operative risks to the patient during the recovery phase
