Fatigue in the Hospital Setting

Purpose:
This education program reviews the key risk factors and effects of fatigue on the body. Current evidence on fatigue and healthcare workers is reviewed along with techniques to reduce risk of fatigue and the role of management in this process.
Objectives
- Describe the effects of fatigue on the body, including physical and psychological effects
- Define the risk factors involved with fatigue in the hospital setting
- Summarize recent evidence in fatigue and healthcare workers
- List possible techniques to decrease personal risks of fatigue
- Discuss possible approaches to management to combat fatigue in nurses
