Jean has been in the nursing field for over 30 years. She started as a nursing assistant at a nursing home during the summer and on weekends while attending Practical Nursing (PN) school. After obtaining her PN license, she returned briefly to the nursing home in the LPN role and then changed to hospital nursing. During the next 12 years Jean worked as a LPN in medical/surgical, obstetrical (labor and delivery, postpartum, newborn nursery), intensive care, and emergency room units.
Jean returned to school for an Associate degree in nursing and worked as a RN in the same areas as previously mentioned, plus six years in surgical services. Surgical services duties included quality assurance, same day surgery, recovery room, endoscopy, IV conscious sedation, scrub nurse, circulating nurse, central sterile supply, and central sterile (cleaning and sterilizing instruments).
Jean left the hospital and became clinical instructor in a PN program while she pursued her Bachelor and Master in Nursing degrees. Upon obtaining her MSN in Executive Nursing Administration, she returned to the hospital as Emergency Room Nurse Manager for three years. At that point she accepted a job as instructor in the PN program. After a year of teaching Practical Nursing she was moved into the Surgical Technology instructor position. During the next 4 years she obtained a perioperative nurse certification (CNOR), an Associate of Art degree in Surgical Technology, and her surgical technologist certification (CST). Jean's Surgical Technology program was listed in the Accreditation Review Committee's (ARC's) Program Assessment Exam (PAE) Elite Top Twenty three times from 2004 - 2007. This listing contains the top twenty programs in the country based on the Program Assessment Exam (PAE).
In January, 2008 Jean became Unit Manager for 5 Tower East at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery.
Jean completed her PhD in Health Administration in 2009. She has been married for 30 years and is active in her church.
