Experience:
Dr. Berguer holds a B.S. in computer science from the Univ. of Michigan and obtained his M.D. degree from Wayne State University. He completed his General Surgery residency at the Univ. of Colorado Health Sciences Center along with a one-year Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Research.
Dr. Berguer is the former Chief of Surgery at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. His academic degrees include previous Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Univ. of California Davis School of Medicine and Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Engineering at California State Univ. Sacramento, and Honorary Professor at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua.
Dr. Berguer has published over fifty peer-reviewed scientific papers as well as six book chapters in the areas of stress immunology, laparoscopic ergonomics, and the prevention of sharp injuries in the operating room. He is a guest speaker at national and international surgical conferences on the topics of surgical ergonomics and sharps injury prevention.
Dr. Berguer is been a consultant in surgical ergonomics and sharps injury prevention for medical device manufacturers. He is presently co-founder and president of Lifeguard Surgical Systems, a California company designing the next generation of surgical visualization systems.
