Vangie Dennis is a Clinical Manager for Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth, Georgia, located in the metropolitan area of Atlanta. Her departments are Interventional Radiology, Procedural Nursing, Endoscopy, Sterile Processing, Cardioversion, Outpatient Treatment Center, and the Special Projects for Surgical Services. She is the Chair for the Advanced Technology Task Force for Partners Health Systems, which covers 7 hospital systems located within the metropolitan Atlanta area.
Vangie has been a nurse for thirty-four years. Professional organizations include the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN), AORN Advanced Technology Specialty Assembly, Laser Institute of America, American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopist, and the American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery.
Professional activities and accomplishments are Past Chairperson for the American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery, Past Assembly Chair for AORN Advanced Technology, Past Assembly Secretary for the organization, and member of the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopist. She is the Associate Editor and on the editorial board for the Journal for Clinical Laser Medicine and Surgery, and on the editorial advisory board for OR Nurse 2008. Vangie has been published and cited in publications such as “Clinical Laser Monthly, “MIS†Nursing, American Health, Laparoscopic Update, Surgical Services Management, Infection Control Today, OR Manager, Today’s OR, Outpatient Surgery, and Same Day Surgery. She is also the author for the “Medcom Module: Laparoscopic Approach for Treatment of Urinary Stress Incontinenceâ€, and referenced in “The JCAHO 2003 National Patient Safety Goals†and co-published the nursing Chapter 9, “The Team-Nursing’s Perspective†in the book Principles of Laparoscopic Surgery. Vangie sits on the Clinical Advisory Boards for the Gwinnett Technical School, The OR Nurse 2008, Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, Inviromedical, Georgia Tissue Council, and Ethicon Endo Surgery. She presently is a committee representative on the AORN National Task Force Environment of Care and the AORN Liaison to the American National Standards Institute 136.3 for Safe Use of Lasers in Healthcare Facilities.
Ms. Dennis is an independent consultant, lectures on lasers, endoscopic procedures, advanced technology, and nursing practice. Vangie has lectured nationally and internationally for AORN, AORN Chapters, Advanced Technology Specialty Assembly, American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery, The International Laser Safety Conference, Canadian Nurses Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, American Association Gynecological Laparoscopists, MedSun CODA Conference, and Medical Societies and facilities. Vangie is on the Board of Directors for Laser Institute of America, a board representative for the National Certification on Lasers, the AORN liaison for the American National Standards Institute, committee representative for the National AORN: Environment of Care, a recipient named in Strathmore's WHO's WHO, and is the recipient of the 1996 Nursing Excellence Award from the American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery.
